Joseph Elford hooded wall clock

A hooded wall clock circa 1740 with 7.5 inch square brass dial signed "Jos. Elford Lymington" to the lower edge of the chapter ring. The dial with matted centre and nautical themed spandrels to the corners, brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, quarter hour track and lozenge half-hour markers. Central alarm setting disc with Arabic numerals. The alarm has an isolating switch. The 30-hour posted countwheel bell-striking movement with anchor escapement and single iron hand. Hook-on brass-faced bob pendulum.

The clock in an oak case with caddy top and front opening glazed door, surmounted by two decorative finials.

Joseph Elford, a clockmaker of Lymington, Hampshire recorded as circa 1738-1740, and previously recorded working in Axminster, Devon.
